Welcome to Pre-K!

Welcome to Pre-K! Mrs. Brown and I are ready to get this year started! We are looking forward to playing outside, playing in centers, reading stories and getting to know our new class.

Weather

We did an experiment with shaving cream, water, and food coloring. We filled a vase with clouds (shaving cream) and precipitation (blue food coloring) and discussed what we thought would happen. It rained!

Our experiment turned into another experiment. One student wondered what would happen to the blue "rain" if we added another color. Soon we began adding more food coloring to the vase and watching the colors change!

We used the shaving cream for another activity that day. We practiced writing our letters and names on the desks.

We talked about wind moving all around us. We made windsocks and tested them out!

Dr. Seuss

We recently spent time celebrating Dr. Seuss. We did a few activities based on one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, The Cat in the Hat. We made hats using Oreos, Lifesavers and frosting. We also made Thing 1 and Thing 2 using handprints.

Prayers for Vocations

Last week was Catholic Schools Week. I asked each student what they want to be or do when they grow up. We attached their responses to balloons and released them, along with the rest of the All Saints students.

Nursery Rhymes and Classic Stories

Last week we talked about Nursery Rhymes and Classic Stories. We turned our dramatic play center into Goldilocks and the Three Bears, tasted porridge, acted out Hey Diddle Diddle with puppets, and painted our own dish that ran away with the spoon. We also made houses out of straw, sticks, and bricks just like the three little pigs. We even had our own Humpty Dumpty that had a great fall right in our classroom!

Winter

We had a great first week back after Christmas Break! We had Pajama Day and turned our Dramatic Play center into a Hot Cocoa Stand. This semester we have added "libraries" to our classroom. The kids love to sit and read in their own laundry basket with pillows!

We talked about animals that hibernate during the winter. We turned the lights off and students picked from several different animals.

Feast of St. Nicholas

Last Friday we celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas. We put our shoes outside our door during rest time, hoping he would stop by our room. He did! We all had some sweet treats in our shoes when we woke up!
